About the event

From a young age, many Jamaican men are taught to “man up,” stay tough, hide emotions, and carry their struggles in silence. Vulnerability is often seen as weakness, and too many men grow up believing they have to face pressure, pain, anger, stress, and disappointment alone. Studies have shown that many Jamaicans experience anxiety, helplessness, depression, and other mental health challenges, which often go untreated. The normalization and misinterpretation of mental health issues in mainstream society often leave these individuals grappling with stress and unresolved trauma alone, which can hinder their ability to maintain positive and healthy lifestyles.
Barbershops have long been a central space for Black men and boys, offering a safe and welcoming environment to gather, relax, and engage in meaningful conversations.
