How to Get into Grad School Workshop
The Afro-Caribbean Black Mentorship Program (ACMP) Inc.’s How to Get into Graduate School workshop aims to help Afro-Caribbean and Black (ACB) students and the broader community across Canada and the Caribbean navigate the often complex and exclusionary pathways to postgraduate education. Based on ACMP’s dedication to educational equity and access, this workshop offers clarity on the graduate school application process.

Participants are guided through each stage of the application process, including choosing programs and supervisors, preparing compelling statements of intent, securing influential letters of recommendation, and building strong academic and research profiles. The workshop also offers insights into funding options, scholarships, and strategies for financing graduate studies—key factors that often influence access and success.
What sets this workshop apart is its focus on culturally responsive mentorship and representation. Students engage directly with Afro-Caribbean Black graduate students, scholars, and professionals who share insights, strategies, and personal experiences, providing both practical guidance and encouragement. These interactions help participants see themselves within academic spaces where they have traditionally been underrepresented.
By providing students with knowledge, resources, and supportive networks, ACMP builds confidence and readiness, enabling participants not only to access graduate education but to succeed in it. This workshop aligns with ACMP’s broader goal of developing the next generation of scholars, researchers, and leaders who will contribute to knowledge creation and positive change within their communities and beyond.
